Former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu has condemned the kidnap of the prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria (MCN), His Eminence Samuel Kanu-Uche.

Kanu-Uche was kidnapped on Sunday by unknown gunmen along the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway in Umunneochi LGA of Abia State.

It was gathered that the Bishop of Owerri, Rt. Rev. Dennis Mark, and the Prelate’s chaplain were also abducted by the gunmen.

Reacting to the development via his verified Facebook page on Monday, the Senate Chief Whip said the growing insecurity in the South East is becoming alarming and calls for concern.

He urged Governors Okezie Ikpeazu and Hope Uzodinma of Abia and Imo states respectively, to ensure the immediate release of the Prelate and others kidnapped by the gunmen.

Kalu also advised the governors to step up security in the two states and rebuild the Ihube-Okigwe-Uturu roads.

He said: “The growing insecurity in the South East is becoming everyday sad news. Yesterday (Sunday), the Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence, Rev Samuel Kanu-Uche was kidnapped and up to this moment, he hasn’t been released.

“I call on the Governors of Abia and Imo states to intensify security in the two Neighborhoods so as to contain the criminal elements around these areas.
