No Court Order Preventing Ongoing strike – TUC

It has been made clear by Organized Labor that no court order was received to halt the ongoing statewide strike, which got underway on Tuesday.

Additionally, it charged that while insisting on rigorous respect to court decisions from other institutions, the government was consistently disobeying court orders.

“Yes, we do not have a court-ordered service, but the government of today consistently disobeys court orders. How many court orders were issued for Emefiele’s release while she was being held by DSS? TUC President Festus Osifo stated on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily program on Wednesday, “There are a plethora of them.”

The head of labor has declared that the unions will confer with their legal counsel as soon as they obtain a court injunction about the current strike.

“We have a state that refuses to obey court orders. You now expect others to obey court orders but once we see it, we are responsible institutions, we will not say because the Federal Government continuously violate court institution, we will examine it and if it is the right thing for us to do, yes, we will,” he said.

The Nigeria Labour Congress and the TUC on Monday ordered their affiliates to withdraw their services nationwide from midnight on November 14, 2023.

According to The PUNCH, an ex-parte application was filed by the Federal Government, the Attorney General of the Federation, and the Minister of Justice requesting that the court prevent the unions from going ahead with their planned strike.

In his decision, Justice Benedict Kanyip, the Court’s President, ordered the unions to end their statewide strike, citing Sections 17 and 19 of the National Industrial Court Act.

To demand justice for the assault on NLC President Joe Ajaero that occurred in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, on November 1, 2023, unions countrywide launched a nationwide strike on Tuesday.

Workers in several states joined the strike, shutting down activities at several government-owned facilities.

Partial compliance was observed in certain states as the industrial action unfolded, with a number of workers choosing to carry on with their regular duties.
