Nigerian Man Recounts Narrow Escape from One-Chance Cab in Abuja

A Nigerian man has shared a harrowing experience of how he narrowly escaped a suspected “one chance” robbery while commuting in Abuja.

The man, who goes by the username @simplymusah on X (formerly Twitter), detailed the terrifying incident in a post that has since gained traction. According to him, he boarded what looked like a RAV4, with no other passengers inside at the time.

Moments after settling in, the driver asked him to shift to the back seat to allow another passenger sit in front a request he noted he typically avoids. Not long after he moved, a man dressed in all black with a face cap obscuring his face mysteriously appeared beside him in the back seat.

Sensing danger, @simplymusah demanded the driver stop the car, but his request was ignored. His suspicions deepened when the driver attempted to pick up a fourth passenger near BUA Estate.

“As I tried to come down, I felt something pressed against my side it felt like a weapon,” he wrote. “The man next to me was trying to control my movement. I screamed and shouted for help, pushing the door open as I struggled.”

Luckily, security guards stationed nearby noticed the commotion. As the traffic light was about to turn green, the suspect beside him fled, and @simplymusah managed to escape before the car sped away.

He ended his post with a word of caution to others: “Please, always trust your instincts.”

The incident has sparked concern among social media users, many of whom have urged residents in Abuja and other cities to be cautious when using unverified private cabs.
