Niger coup: Senate must not approve Tinubu’s request for war – Shehu Sani

Former legislator Shehu Sani has warned Senate not to endorse President Bola Tinubu’s proposal for military action against the Republic of Niger

Sani advised Tinubu to avoid being duped by foreign influences in a post on his X social media site on Friday.

According to Report, the President wrote to the Senate requesting permission to take military action and impose other penalties against the military junta in Niger.

Sani, however, is of the opinion that senators should consider the ramifications and effects of their choices, particularly those senators who represent states that border Niger.

He stated that no military action against the Niger Republic should be approved by the Nigerian Senate. This nation shouldn’t be drawn into a conflict that lingers in the Sahel region.

President Tinubu shouldn’t allow outside forces to deceive him. We should learn from Saudi Arabia in Yemen, America in Afghanistan, and now Russia in Ukraine that war doesn’t end in days, weeks, or months.

“Senators, especially those who represent states bordering Niger, should consider the ramifications and effects of their choices. Also unacceptable is the weaponization of electrical supply to Niger.

“The lives of those who would be sacrificed should be saved by President Tinubu’s continued use of diplomatic channels. That is my opinion.
