A new royalty has been introduced into the courts of the Alaafin months after the death of the ruling monarch, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, in April.

The Oyo empire was thrown into mourning when news broke out that the Alaafin had joined his ancestors.

The news, shocking to many, was unbelievable when it was first announced until the palace confirmed that the king died after a brief illness at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, Ekiti state.

According to an official statement on Alaafin’s official Instagram page, the need to continue promoting the Yoruba culture and tradition of the late Alaafin Oba Adeyemi III has prompted the installation of the new royalty identified as Sangowale Obuowo.

Reports revealed that Sangowale Obuowo was a decent of Ile Otapo, Asipa, in Oyo state.

The statement reads: “We are introducing to the world that sequel to the vacant position of the late Elegun who joined his ancestors and the need to continue the promotion of Yoruba Culture and Tradition as a work in progress of Alaafin Oba Adeyemi III, we present to you the NEW ELEGUN SANGO KOSO, he is SANGOWALE IBUOWO from ILE OTAPO, Asipa, Oyo.”
