The executive committee of Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that Morocco will host the 35th edition of the Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2025.

In Cairo, Egypt, on Wednesday, the group met and made the choice.

After staging the competition in 1988 for the first time, Morocco will host the continent’s premier event once more in 2019.

Following the withdrawals of Algeria, Zambia, and a joint bid from Benin and Nigeria prior to the vote of the Confederation of African Football’s executive committee in Cairo on Wednesday, Morocco was declared the winner by default.

The decision will help the north African nation’s chances of co-hosting the 2030 World Cup with Portugal and Spain, as they were the clear favorites.

The rights for the 2027 edition, meanwhile, were awarded to a joint bid from Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

For the first time since 1976, the region will host the continent’s premier event in 2027 thanks to a joint East African bid.

In a vote by the CAF executive committee, they prevailed over Botswana, Egypt, and Senegal. However, on Tuesday, Algeria withdrew as a candidate.

Guber Election: SDP appeals to Tinubu to put an end to the attacks in Kogi

Yesterday, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) pleaded with President Bola Tinubu to put an end to the unrelenting violence brought on by the Kogi governorship election campaign.

At a news conference in Lokoja on Wednesday, Mr. Isaiah Ijele, the director-general of new media for the SDP Campaign Council, made the request.

Ijele claimed that politically-sponsored thugs are killing and maiming innocent citizens throughout the state.

He claimed that the All Progressives Congress (APC), which is currently in power, was behind the attacks on Alhaji Muritala Ajaka, a candidate for governor of the SDP.

However, the spokesman for the APC Campaign Council, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, had denied funding any attack against SDP supporters in the state.

According to Ijele’s recollections, there were gunshots throughout Tuesday night in the towns of Anyigba and Ankpa, where the homes and property of innocent SDP supporters were destroyed.

Our Anyigba campaign coordinator and his family became victims after being chased out of their home and having their belongings, including his motorcycle, destroyed.

The SDP’s accusations were refuted by APC spokesperson Fanwo, who stated: “We are a government and our priority is to protect all the people of Kogi State, irrespective of political leanings.

According to Fanwo, all accusations are as good as none if they lack supporting evidence.
