Ahmed Bello, father of the late Bilyaminu Bello, has disclosed that he personally pleaded with President Bola Tinubu to grant a presidential pardon to his daughter-in-law, Maryam Sanda, who was convicted of murdering his son in 2017.

Speaking in Abuja alongside Maryam’s father, Garba Sanda, Bello said his appeal was made on humanitarian grounds out of concern for his two grandchildren.

“As a Muslim, I accepted the incident as the will of Allah. I have forgiven Maryam for what happened,” he said. “Before the trial ended, I appealed to both the police and the court to drop the case because I didn’t want my grandchildren to lose their mother after losing their father.”

Bello noted that while some relatives may disagree, he stood by his decision to forgive.

In response, Garba Sanda expressed gratitude, saying, “Words cannot express how grateful we are for this gesture of mercy and reconciliation. We pray for continued healing for both families and that the children grow up surrounded by love and peace.”

Both families reaffirmed their commitment to forgiveness and unity, pledging to raise the late Bilyaminu’s children together.

President Bola Tinubu recently approved Maryam Sanda’s pardon after she spent more than six years in prison.
