A young man in Kenya has reportedly lost his ability to speak and now only communicates by mimicking the sounds of goats and chickens the very animals he confessed to stealing.
The strange case has gone viral after a video surfaced on TikTok, drawing widespread reactions from social media users intrigued by the bizarre turn of events.
Authorities at the Majengo Police Post in Mombasa were alerted by concerned residents about a suspicious individual behaving unusually in the Majengo Sokoni area. The individual was later identified as a teenager named Baraka Joseph.
Upon his arrest, officers discovered that Baraka could not speak. Instead, he relied on writing messages to communicate. In a written statement, he admitted to stealing two goats and two chickens from a local resident believed to be from the Kamba community. He claimed to have sold the goats for KSh 3,000 and the chickens for KSh 1,000.
According to his account, Baraka had traveled by bus from Nairobi to Mombasa on June 4, 2025, and was able to speak normally throughout the journey. However, after reaching Mombasa, he inexplicably lost his speech and began producing sounds similar to those of the animals he had stolen.
The incident has sparked widespread speculation online, with many interpreting it as a spiritual or supernatural repercussion. While it is still unclear whether Baraka is receiving medical or spiritual help, the case continues to generate heated debates among members of the public.
