The presidential candidate of Labour Party, (LP), Peter Obi has donated N5 million to victims of flood ravaging Benue State.

He made the announcement on Thursday, October 20 during a visit to affected communities, to empathise with them.

Obi had earlier announced the suspension of his campaign to focus his attention on the raging floods while calling on his counterparts to do same.

The former governor of Anambra state said everyone must work hard irrespective of political differences.

“I stopped and told my people no more campaigns until we’re able to visit some of the sites and at least sympathise with victims,” he said.

His call comes amid cases of floods that have hit parts of Nigeria in the last two months. Some affected states are Kogi, Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Jigawa, Zamfara, Kebbi, Sokoto, Imo, Abia, Edo, Delta, Benue, Ebonyi, Anambra, Kogi, Niger, Plateau and parts of the Federal Capital Territory.

Meanwhile, early this month, flood resulting from heavy downpour across Adamawa State claimed 37 lives.

The Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) confirmed the human casualty, and revealed that 58 other people sustained injuries.

ADSEMA said 171, 000 persons were affected, while 89, 000 hectres of farmlands were submerged.
