
Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe has been hospitalized during the Club World Cup, putting his participation in the tournament in jeopardy.
Mbappe was unable to play in Real Madrid’s opening match of the tournament on Wednesday due to an illness.
On Thursday, the club provided an update confirming that Mbappe has been hospitalized with gastroenteritis, a stomach ailment marked by diarrhea and vomiting.
‘Our player Kylian Mbappe is suffering from an acute case of gastroenteritis and has been admitted to hospital in order to undergo a series of tests and follow the appropriate course of treatment.’ a statement read.
Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso was questioned about Mbappe’s health status following their 1-1 draw against Al-Hilal.
Alonso was cautious in his predictions regarding Mbappe’s availability for their second group match on Sunday.
‘We´ll have to see how he feels,’ Alonso said.
‘The last day he went through significant viral issues, so we´ll have to wait and assess closer to the game.’
