Katsina: 200 Students Rescued After Attack.

At least, 200 students fled from the gunmen who attacked the Government Secondary School of Science (GSSS) in Kankara, Katsina State.

The students who escaped the midnight attack into the bush are back in good health, according to the school board and police.

The Katsina State police spokesman Gambo Isah and the principal of the school, Usman Abubakar, confirmed the incident on Saturday after reports said hundreds of students had gone missing after Friday night’s attack.

Mr Usman said the school board was counting the students to ascertain the true status of those who went missing or were abducted.

“We could not know the number of students abducted until later because some missing students are still returning from the bush; We are now calling for registration.

“Some students have returned home. Their parents called and informed the school board,” he said.

For his part, the state police spokesman said the gunmen attacked GSSS Kankara around 11:30 pm.

“Our officers exchanged fire with them, which resulted in the students fleeing.

“This morning the DPO identified more than 200 of the students and sent them back to school.

The Police, Nigerian Army, and Nigerian Air Force are working closely with the school authorities to ascertain the actual number of the missing and kidnapped students while search parties are assiduously working to find and rescue the missing students.

The school was attacked by gunmen on Friday night in a gunfight that lasted about an hour.
