Jigawa Govt employs 1,124 contract health workers

Under its J-Health program, the Jigawa State Government has authorized the employment of 1,124 healthcare professionals who were previously employed on a contract basis.

Alhaji Sagir Musa, the Commissioner for Information, Youths, Sports, and Culture, made this claim in a statement on Friday in Dutse.

Musa claims that during its meeting on Thursday, the State Executive Council gave their approval for the exercise.

“The SEC has, on Thursday, November 30, 2023, deliberated and approved the employment of 1,124 health workers (J-Health) in permanent and pensionable engagements.”

According to Musa, the permission is consistent with the administration of Governor Umar Namadi’s pledge to improve the availability of reasonably priced healthcare services throughout the state.

He stated that the council had also authorized N959.2 million for the 1,124 health workers’ salary and benefits.

According to him, they consist of the 924 employees of J-Health, which comprise 20 nurses, 40 doctors, 30 pharmacists, and 200 medical staff.

Twenty biological lab scientists, fifteen community health workers, ten dental therapists, ten physiotherapists, five medical imaging specialists, forty licensed nurses, and midwives are among the other beneficiaries, according to him.

Ten science laboratory technicians and personnel from other pertinent sectors will also be sent to the 281 primary health centers located around the state.

“The confirmation of the 924 J-Health ad hoc status is, however, subject to examination to be conducted by the state Ministry of Health.

“The council also approved the engagement of 1,000 indigenes that studied health-related courses into the J-Health scheme to replace those that gained permanent employment.”
