Nana Otedola, the wife of billionaire businessman Femi Otedola and mother to media personality DJ Cuppy and actress Temi Otedola, has set the record straight about her ethnic background after years of public speculation.

The clarification came during a conversation with her pregnant daughter, Temi, in a video that has since gained widespread attention online.

Over the years, many people have assumed Nana is Ghanaian, largely because of her name and appearance. However, she revealed that the assumption is incorrect and emphasized her Nigerian roots.

Addressing the long-standing misconception, Nana stated that she is proudly from the Egba ethnic group in Ogun State and traces her ancestry to Abeokuta.

She explained that while she understands why people may have been curious about her heritage, she felt it was necessary to clear up the confusion.

According to her, “For everyone who has been wondering, I am an Egba woman, and that is the heritage I proudly identify with as a Nigerian. I am not Ghanaian. My roots are in Abeokuta.”

Nana also shed light on why some people may have misunderstood her background. She disclosed that she was born in Kaduna State and spent nearly 20 years living there while growing up.

The mother of four noted that her long stay in northern Nigeria may have contributed to the assumptions people made about her identity.

“I was born in Kaduna and lived there for almost two decades,” she said.

Despite her connection to Kaduna, Nana maintained that her cultural and ancestral roots remain firmly tied to Egba land in Ogun State.
