“I’ll Dust My Certificate And Move On”- Phyna Reacts To Moniepoint CEO’s Remarks On Nigerian Workers

  • Reality TV star Phyna reacted to a viral statement from Moniepoint CEO Tosin Eniolorunda about the company’s difficulty in hiring Nigerians despite having over 500 job openings.
  • The statement, which circulated on social media, suggested a lack of skills among Nigerian job seekers.
  • Phyna challenged this narrative, emphasizing concerns about wage structures and the economic conditions affecting Nigerians.

Reality TV star Phyna has responded to a viral statement linked to Moniepoint CEO, Tosin Eniolorunda, which claimed that the company has over 500 job openings but struggles to hire Nigerians due to a perceived lack of skills.

The comment, which spread widely across social media on Wednesday, May 2026, triggered mixed reactions, with Phyna strongly pushing back against the narrative. She questioned the wage structure and broader economic realities facing Nigerians.

According to her, “How much is the salary? Let’s assume it is ₦500,000 monthly. Some people are on TikTok from morning till night and earn more than that daily. How much is rent, how much is cost of living in Nigeria? You cannot just say Nigerians are not smart because jobs are not being filled.”

She further argued that improved national conditions would encourage more people to pursue formal employment. “If Nigeria gets better, a lot of people will leave fooling and dust their certificates. I have my certificate here, I studied engineering. If Nigeria gets better, I will dust it and move into the corporate world,” she added.

The discussion comes amid ongoing conversations within Nigeria’s tech and fintech space about talent availability and hiring standards. Moniepoint has previously expanded its workforce as part of its SME banking growth strategy, while industry observers have continued to highlight concerns about the gap between graduate skills and corporate expectations.

The debate has since gained momentum online, with social media users divided some calling for improved pay and working conditions, while others emphasize the need for better alignment between education outcomes and industry demands.
