Veteran actor John Okafor, also known as Mr. Ibu, has described how he came dangerously close to passing away after contracting a serious illness.

Mr. Ibu has described how he spent three years fighting a life-threatening illness that kept him off the screens and out of his social life.

He revealed that those who were close to him were behind his illness in an interview with Vanguard.

He claimed that he had already begun “seeing people on the other side,” but God had nonetheless giving him new life.

Mr Ibu said; “My illness was actually perpetrated by people that hate me. They did what they did to me. Later, I was taken to the hospital. The doctors are prophets. So, they went into my system and they told me what was wrong and what they are going to do. I said ‘Whatever you are going to do, please, do it, let me live because if I die like this the enemies will laugh’. And then the doctors said ‘Okay, there’s no problem’.

“At the time, I didn’t know what happened. I left! So, whatever I was saying they recorded it. I was saying something like somebody who is going mad. I wasn’t actually seeing anybody. But on the other side where I was at that time, I was seeing some dead people.. God brought me back.”

According to Okafor, his enemies were happy about his illness and thought he wouldn’t make it but God gave him a second chance.

The actor who said he is surprised that he is still alive added that his sickness taught him a “big lesson”.

Meanwhile, Mr Ibu earlier revealed that he longer eats food prepared by his wife, Stella Maris.

He made the revelation while responding to a question about how being poisoned in the past affected his relationship with people also in light of the recent issue with his wife.

Mr Ibu said he stopped eating her food after the incident where she clashed with him and his adopted daughter, Jasmine Chioma over allegations that they were having an affair.

He said that he likes eating a lot but because he no longer trusts her, the only food he consumes now is the one cooked by his daughter.

The Nollywood veteran who has been married before said if he and Stella Maris end up getting divorced he won’t take another wife.
