The Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Tems‘ manager, Muyiwa Awoniyi, has disclosed that when the performer was arrested by the Ugandan police in 2020, she led praise and worship in her cell.

Recall that in December 2020, Ugandan authorities in Kampala detained and arrested Nigerian musicians Omah Lay and Tems, as well as some of their team members, for violating COVID-19 regulations.

Awoniyi recalled the incident while appearing as a guest on the most recent episode of Menisms’ audiovisual podcast, which is hosted by Olumurewa and Michael Sonariwo. She claimed that Tems had the inmates join in on her song. He stated:

“Entering prison, as a woman, Tems, they [prison warders] took her to the female section. I was just worried about her. I was not with her. I was just wondering what the hell is going on [with her?].

“I will come to find out that Tems conducted praise and worship in a whole prison cell. Everybody was singing with her. She took over the whole prison.”

Tems asserts that she could relate to him better than any other Nigerian artist, which is why she believes a collaboration with him would be fantastic.

She made the comment about the “Last Last” crooner lifting her spirits while speaking before she got her big break in the music business.

Popular singer and Grammy Award winner, Temilade Openiyi better known as Tems has been criticized for her outfit to the 2023 Oscars.

The 27-years-old had arrived the event in a regal white outfit which turned heads of attendees.

Tems had was nominated for the 2023 Oscars in the Best Original Song category for her collaboration on the song, “Lift Me Up” with popular singer, Rihanna.

However, her outfit had sparked reactions online from netizens who had concluded that her outfit denied others from getting a better view of the stage.

One netizen wrote: “The dress was gorgeous on the red carpet, but this is beyond rude once seated. Her stylist should have had another dress for her to change into before she was seated. Celebrities do that all the time at events.”

Another tweeted: “So no one asked her to take it off or move? Obnoxious”
