A man named Yushab Abolore Ayomide recently shared an intense encounter with a beggar at Ikorodu Garage, turning what seemed like an ordinary commute into a moment that reportedly made the beggar rethink his approach.

The episode took place earlier this week while Ayomide was traveling to Oshodi. He had initially intended to take a BRT bus but left the queue after realizing he had forgotten his wallet, choosing to use a mini bus instead.

While moving through the busy terminal, a beggar began following him insistently, requesting money for transportation.

Ayomide recounted, “I could tell he was just after money, but I decided to play along. I told him, ‘Don’t worry, God will handle it,’ while secretly planning to handle it myself.”

He said he paid the ₦1500 fare for the beggar but made it clear that the man couldn’t get off before reaching Oshodi, joking, “Whether you’ll get it there or not, stay on this bus now before I remove your teeth.”

By the time they arrived at Oshodi, the beggar appeared subdued and hesitant to express gratitude, suggesting that the experience had left a lasting impact.

This incident highlights the frequent tensions between commuters and street beggars in Lagos, raising broader discussions about safety, compassion, and responsibility in the city’s public spaces.
