“He Pointed a Gun and Took Everything” -Victims Recount Ordeal with Fake Taxi Driver in Jos

  • Victims described the suspect as a bearded, fair-complexioned man operating mainly around Rayfield.
  • They recounted being robbed at gunpoint, with the attacker stealing their phones, cash, and bank funds.
  • Residents have been urged to remain cautious when boarding taxis in the area.

Some women in Jos, Plateau State, have shared their frightening encounters with a suspected lone robber who allegedly disguises as a taxi driver to rob female passengers at gunpoint.

Raising the alarm, Shiela Shallangwa warned: “Please be careful out there. There is a guy that rob women at gunpoint and he disguises himself as a taxi man. According to people who are victims… he is fair in complexion and has beards. He doesn’t stay at the parks… he does road side. One of the victims noticed his plate number is Abj… but didn’t hold the number. This will be the 6th person that I know got robbed by this same person with same description. Please be very very careful.”

Another victim, Sampams Dee Dee, shared: “I’m a victim too. This same guy picked me from British and was going to Rayfield. On our way, immediately after the civil defense office, this guy removed a gun & asked me to give him my phone & the login password. Including my bank password. That’s how I gave him & he asked me to drop from the car. Before I will use my card, he removed all the money in my bank.”

Linda Musa also recounted her ordeal: “This guy literally robbed me at gun point on Sunday night around Maxi Shawarma, Yingi. Collected my Shawarma and about 20k. Thank God I didn’t go out with my big phone and he was super mad that I had only small phone with me. The only thing I could get on the plate number was KWL 40 I couldn’t get the last number.”

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant, especially around the Rayfield area where the suspect reportedly operates.
