The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton has been slammed on social media after she wore a green dress instead of a black one to the 2018 BAFTAS award in London.

Kate Middleton defied the Time’s Up protest by arriving at the BAFTAs award in London in a green dress, instead of the black worn by the majority of the red carpet.

As with last month’s Golden Globe awards, stars dressed mainly in black in a show of solidarity with the #MeToo and Time’s Up anti-sexual harassment campaigns.

The pregnant Duchess — also known as Kate Middleton — was glowing in green, but she sparked a social media debate about whether or not she should have worn black.

The Sun reports that there would have been repercussions if the Duchess had worn black as it may be seen as a political statement, which is strictly against the Royal Family’s rules.

British royals avoid making overtly political statements or gestures, and the Duchess of Cambridge chose to wear dark green as she accompanied her husband Prince William, who is the president of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, to the ceremony.

Again, royals only wear black at funerals, so supporting the cause would be a breach of protocol.

Perhaps in a subtle nod to the movement, Kate Middleton accessorised her green dress with a black bow above her baby bump, matching her shoes and clutch handbag.
