The curfew imposed on a number of communities in the state’s Karim-Lamido Local Government Council has been lifted by Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas.

Tuesday, shortly after receiving the report of the reconciliation committee headed by Alhaji Inuwa Bakari, the governor announced the lifting of the curfew.

Recent conflicts in the council between the Wurkun and Karinjo communities led to the implementation of the curfew. Significant numbers of lives and property were lost in these clashes.

The governor enacted a total lockdown in the affected council area in order to stop the crisis from escalating and affecting nearby communities and local government councils.

Additionally, a committee was formed by the governor to address the long-standing conflict between the two communities.

The residents were urged by Governor Kefas to refrain from taking any actions that might fuel more strife within the council.

He emphasized that any person or group engaging in actions that disturb the ongoing peace in the region and the state as a whole would face harsh punishment from his administration.

He reiterated that his administration was committed to bringing about the region’s much-needed growth, and he thought that only in a climate of peace could such a feat be accomplished.

Residents of the affected council area who spoke with our correspondent on the phone expressed relief that the curfew was lifted. They stated that the decision has provided relief to the entire council as well as the affected communities.
