Former Nigerian senator Ibrahim Musa Kontagora has died in Abuja after reportedly facing delays in receiving urgent medical treatment due to hospital payment issues.

Kontagora, who represented Niger North Senatorial District from 2011 to 2015, died at Nizamiye Hospital following a medical emergency. According to his family, the hospital demanded full payment of a \$30,000 bill before surgery could commence. They were only able to deposit \$15,000 initially, and by the time the remaining funds were secured, it was allegedly too late.

While a hospital spokesperson confirmed their full-payment policy, they declined to accept responsibility for the outcome.

Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago contributed to the medical expenses, and several figures, including Senator Aliyu Abdullahi, have expressed their condolences.
