Simon Lalong, the former governor of Plateau State, will take the oath of office as the senator for the Plateau South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio is scheduled to formally swear in the former Minister of Labor and Employment on Wednesday at plenary, according to information obtained by Naija News.

Additionally, Lalong assured State House reporters that he will return to the Senate on Wednesday during his visit to the Presidential Villa on Tuesday to see President Bola Tinubu.

Remember that on Tuesday, Lalong formally resigned from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet following the Court of Appeal’s affirmation of his victory in the National Assembly election held in Abuja.

In a statement on Tuesday, Lalong’s Special Advisor on Media, Makut Simon Macham, affirmed Lalong’s choice to resign as a minister and accept the Senate position.

He disclosed that on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, Lalong sent the President a letter of resignation.

Lalong reminded President Tinubu in his letter that, following arduous legal proceedings, the Court of Appeal had recognized him as the legitimate senator representing the Plateau South Senatorial District and had ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to grant him the Certificate of Return, according to Macham’s statement.

Aware of the trust and confidence President Bola Tinubu placed in him as the Director General of the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Council, which led to the APC’s triumph, he emphasized that the choice to step down as a minister was not taken lightly.

But he clarified that it was now more convenient for him to move forward and assume his place in the Red Chambers in order to continue supporting President Tinubu’s vision for “Renewed Hope” following lengthy deliberations.
