In other news,….. A Nigerian lady recently shared a disturbing account of how dating a man nearly two decades older than her forced her to leave school.
In a TikTok video posted on the account @ayam_smellluxury, she revealed that she was just 15 when the man first started showing interest in her. She repeatedly turned him down during trips between Abuja and Owerri.
However, after she gained admission to a university in Owerri, their paths crossed again, and they began a relationship. During her first year, she moved into his home.
He owned an ice cream and popcorn business, and instead of concentrating on her studies, she spent much of her time helping him with sales. They traveled in his bus alongside his sales assistant, and whenever people asked about their relationship, he would insist she was his sister rather than his partner.
At the time, she was 17, and he was 35. She described the relationship as controlling and abusive. He would frequently criticise her over minor issues and eventually resorted to physical violence.
Whenever she attempted to leave, he would insult her, claiming she would become immoral, and her fear and emotional attachment often drew her back. When she wanted to return to school, he refused, arguing that education had not done him any good.
Before her birthday, she gave him her school fees, which her parents had sent, to fix a faulty gearbox in his bus he had complained about it earlier. On her birthday, he only bought her a bottle of malt and later slapped her for supposedly admiring another man’s car.
She said that the slap was the moment she realized the full extent of the relationship’s toxicity.
“That was the day my eyes opened. The incident made her realise she needed to leave the relationship and regain control of her life,” she said.
