Court Grants Suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Bail on Self-Recognition

The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan bail on self-recognition following her arraignment on a six-count charge related to alleged cybercrime.

During the proceedings, Akpoti-Uduaghan pleaded not guilty to all charges, which include accusations of disseminating false and injurious statements targeting Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.

One of the charges alleged that the senator claimed Akpabio told Bello to ensure she was killed in Kogi State, not Abuja, to make it appear like a local incident. The Federal Government argued that this statement, widely shared on digital platforms, was knowingly false and designed to incite public unrest.

The prosecution cited Section 24(2)(c) of the Cybercrimes Act, which penalizes the deliberate spread of false information intended to harm reputations or disrupt public peace.

Akpoti-Uduaghan’s lawyer, Prof. Roland Otaru (SAN), appealed for bail on the grounds of her status as a serving senator and senior legal practitioner. He also noted that the prosecution did not file any objection to the application.

Justice Mohammed Umar granted the bail request based on self-recognition and scheduled the trial to resume on September 22.

In other news, As public debate intensifies over the death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, social media commentator VeryDarkMan (VDM) has found himself at the heart of the controversy.

The situation escalated after a Nigerian philanthropist, King Micthy, shared her candid opinion online, sparking widespread reactions. Her comments came in response to VDM’s recent interview with Sam Larry, an associate of Naira Marley, which many felt diverted from the core issue.

During the interview, Sam Larry was questioned about a viral video allegedly showing him harassing Mohbad. However, his responses left viewers stunned and raised more questions than answers.

Reacting strongly, King Micthy criticized VDM, accusing him of misdirecting public focus. She claimed that instead of advocating for justice in Mohbad’s case, VDM stirred up distractions by emphasizing the need for a paternity test on Mohbad’s child. According to her, this shift in narrative has hindered progress in holding those responsible accountable.

In her words:’

“Mohbad didn’t get justice because of you. You diverted everyone’s attention from “JUSTICE FOR MOHBAD” to DNA. All of a sudden you started hanging out with his oppressors! Now you said you want justice by sitting and partying with the same people who made his life a living hell? I have nothing to gain from you so I will tell you the Truth!! That interview was not necessary!!”
