Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Saturday said a suspected case of Coronavirus in Abuja, now deceased, did not die of the disease.

A Nigerian user @HappinessEjim had on Thursday raised the alarm that her neighbour who came back from the UK and refused to isolate had died after five days in the hospital.

She, however, urged the agency to investigate the patient and the hospital that treated her.

According to her, the NCDC promised to send its officials to investigate the suspected case but they did not come.

In a series of tweets on Thursday, she wrote “@NCDCgov about three weeks ago, I called to report my neighbor who got back from London and was not self-isolating and you promised to come pick them up, but y’all never showed up. Well, she is dead. I hope you come now,” she had tweeted.

“She was taken to the hospital about five days ago and she died in the hospital,” she said.

Responding, the NCDC said the epidemiology unit of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) investigated the case and found out that the deceased did not die of COVID-19.

“The @officialFCTA Epidemiology Unit has investigated and confirmed that the patient in question did not die from COVID-19, but had other medical complications,” the centre tweeted.

“Enquiries for the FCT team can be made to the FCT #COVID19 Situation Room- 07080631500, 08099936313, 08031230330.”

Meanwhile, the NCDC on Saturday, said it recorded 11 coronavirus cases in Lagos; one in Delta, and another one in Kano State, adding that 10 persons have died from the virus in the country.
