Bose Ogulu, the mother and manager of Nigerian superstar Burna Boy, has reacted to ongoing perceptions about her son’s personality, particularly claims that he is arrogant.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, she addressed public opinions surrounding Burna Boy’s image and how his career is being managed.
She said she is not disturbed by the labels often attached to either her or her son, noting that fame naturally comes with a wide range of opinions. According to her, what matters most is their true character, not how people choose to describe them.
Ogulu also spoke about confidence and self-awareness, explaining that being sure of one’s worth should not be mistaken for arrogance. She emphasized that self-respect includes standing firmly in one’s identity and abilities without feeling the need to downplay oneself.
She further observed that society often expects people to behave in certain restrained ways based on factors such as background, skin colour, nationality, or gender. However, she stated that she does not believe anyone should diminish themselves to meet such expectations.
“I don’t mind honestly, I don’t mind at all. I mean any adjective they want to attach to you is ok. The thing is who are you? If knowing your worth and carrying himself as such is arrogant, then it is a good thing. And I can’t apologize for that. Because I think we were born into a world where we were expected to put our heads down.
“First is the color of your skin, the color of your passport, for me, my gender. So, I don’t understand the concept of that life. I understand that if I know something, I know it and I expect you to realise that I know it. And if you don’t realize that I know it, then, put me to the test”, she said.
