Boris Johnson Orders Fresh Lockdown in UK.

The United Kingdom Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, in other to contain the new variant of COVID-19 disease, has again ordered a fresh lockdown till mid-February.

While speaking on Monday night, January 4, Johnson warned that citizens must again remain at their houses for the main time just as they were ordered to do during the first wave of the dreaded disease in March 2020.

He opined, the decision was necessary as there is now more pressure on hospitals in the UK from the novel virus than at any time since the outbreak of the pandemic.

The development is coming at the time Britain is ramping up its vaccination program to become the first nation to start the application of the vaccine developed by Oxford University and drug maker AstraZeneca.

“As I speak to you tonight, our hospitals are under more pressure from COVID than at any time since the start of the pandemic,” said Boris Johnson. The Prime Minister declared that there were “tough, tough” weeks to come in the fight against COVID-19.

The fresh regulations which are set to come into effect now will have all primary and secondary schools and colleges shut down for physical learning except for kids of some key workers. Also, tertiary institution students will not be returning for their lecture until at least mid-February.
