The Inspector General of Police and other security services have been urged by the Network of Bayelsa Professionals to provide sufficient security in order to prevent violence during the state’s free election.
The experts bemoaned the fact that violent elections have always been a feature of the state’s elections and urged the security services to take action against this problem in the November 11 election.
The group’s spokeswoman, Deinmobofa Tantua, spoke to journalists in Abuja on Friday and encouraged them to hold off on making rash statements in an attempt to prevent violence during the election.
He said, “We call on the IGP and other security agencies to ensure a violent free election for the first time in the state.
This time, we are raising the alarm of violent plans by some politicians. In one of the party’s rallies, he vowed to take power by force.
“We cannot wave such threat aside. The antecedent of the man who made the threat is well known. We want peace in the state. Elections are not war and, that is the message we, as a group have been preaching.”
He also called on President Bola Tinubu not to interfere in the forthcoming governorship election in Bayelsa state.
