Asake faces backlashes for gifting just ‘N5m’ to ailing policewoman in viral ‘Epp me’ video

Asake, a Nigerian singer, has been making headlines for the five million Naira he gave to ailing policewoman Helen Utabor in the viral ‘Epp me’ video.

Helen was behind the viral ‘epp me epp me, he dey carry me go where I no know’ trend, which drew a lot of attention online. Many social media users, including Asake, have taken advantage of the trend to create their own content.

In recent days, the police in Edo state begged Nigerians for financial assistance after being hit by a vehicle while controlling traffic. She is currently in the hospital, with one of her legs bandaged.

Asake, well-known for his music, responded to her plea with a N5 million donation. However, rather than receiving applause, the seemingly generous act sparked controversy.

It’s worth noting that the ‘Terminator’ crooner made use of the woman’s audio in his hit song, ‘Peace be unto you’ without giving her any royalties. According to report, the song hit over N500 million in streams.

The post reads, “Asake used this woman’s audio “Epp Me. Epp me. E dey carry me go where I no know” in his hit song PBUY without any settlement.”

“That song made over 500 million in streams . This woman got into some health issues, Asake sent only 5 million after intense dragging sef. Remember that same Asake bought a house of 136 million just 2 months ago. Nigerians are not good people”.

The post triggered massive reactions with social media users sharing their controversial thoughts. Read some comments shown below:

@TheGladiatorFan said, “Yeah. Cos she’s entitled to his money like that Abi. While you’re at it, write another 10 million of your own money to prove a point. We’lol be waiting on the sidelines.”

@dgreatoom said, “If you were to be in Asake’s shoe, what will you do?”

@dammygtnet said, “I understand you like generating controversies but sending her N5m should be appreciated. There was no legal agreement as to the usage of ‘her voice or craft’ so to say. Asake sent the money out of his own volition, he should be appreciated.”

@Olalekanakogun said, “He sent 5 million??? What happened to giving her his leg or at least take over her medical expenses and her family’s upkeep???🤦🏽‍♂️…what a wicked guy, how could he have bitten the finger that fed him? He owes her his life!”

@AjeboMezie said, “Only 5million?. imagine talk, how much did you send? N5m only ke? you dey mad”.
