Arsenal Negotiates With Nigerian Youngster Folarin Balogun for New Contract

Arsenal have been reported to have reopened talks with Nigerian youngster Folarin Balogun over a new contract for the striker to remain at the club.

The 19-year-old striker’s deal was set to expire in June and he was the subject of summer interest to several clubs including Championship sides, Brentford and Sheffield United.

Brentford saw a £5million bid rejected by Arsenal and Sheffield United were interested in the summer, with Chris Wilder open about his desire to sign him.

But in the end, the Blades went for Liverpool youngster Rhian Brewster instead.

The teenager made his first-team debut as a substitute in the 3-0 win at home to Dundalk in the Europa League last month, and boss Mikel Arteta is reportedly determined to keep hold of him.

He is just months away from becoming a free agent, but The Athletic have reported that Arsenal chiefs have re-opened contract talks with the 18-year-old.

Balogun, who is regarded as one of Arsenal’s best young talents, was born in the United States to Nigerian parents.
