Appeal Court Upholds 4 PDP Reps Elections in Sokoto

Osun PDP declares three-day mourning over death of LG Chairman

The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division’s decision to sustain the election of four party members to the House of Representatives has pleased the Peoples Democratic Party, Sokoto State branch.

Hassan Sayinnawal, the state spokesperson for the party, sent journalists with a statement on Saturday that included this information.

The statement reads, “Our great party, the PDP in Sokoto State, wishes to express our joy over the victory of the party’s candidates in the 2023 National Assembly election at the Appeal Court of Nigeria.

“We wish to congratulate the following members of the PDP for having their mandate upheld at the end of the legal process.

” Mani  Katami – Binji Silame Federal Constituency; Abdussamad Dasuki – Kebbe – Tambuwal Federal Constituency; Sa’idu Bargaja:- Isa – Sabon-Birni Federal Constituency and  Bashir  Gorau – Goronyo Gada Federal Constituency.

“The PDP views this development as proof of the confidence and support that the teeming electorate of Sokoto State repose in our party and its candidates and the preference of the masses of our dear state for our purposeful, progressive philosophy of governance.

 “Our party enjoins the people to sustain their support for our shared lofty ideals and the confidence that their mandate, which was clearly expressed in the 2023 elections, will be salvaged and upheld through the ongoing judicial processes at all levels.”

The All Progressives Congress candidate, who was proclaimed the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission, lost to the party’s candidate in the Binji/Silame Federal Constituency, Mani Katami, who was crowned the victor by the appeal court in the general elections of 2023.

Additionally, the court confirmed Abdulsamad Dasuki and Bashir Gorau’s election on Saturday. They will represent the federal constituencies of Kebbe/Tambuwal and Gada/Goronyo, respectively.

The APC member, late Hon. Abdukadir Jelani Dambuga, who held the seat until his passing around two months ago, was defeated by party candidate Saidu Bargaja, who was also declared the winner by the court for the Isa/Sabon Birmi federal constituency.

In the meantime, the court of appeals on Saturday ruled that the election of Umar Yabo, a PDP representative for the Yabo/Shagari federal seat, was inconclusive and mandated a rerun in 26 of the constituency’s polling places.
