Hollywood actor Patrick Dempsey has been named this year’s Sexiest Man Alive by People Magazine.
Demsey gained notoriety for playing Doctor Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd on “Grey’s Anatomy,” one of the greatest TV series ever.
In addition, he starred in other Hollywood classics including “Made of Honour” and “Enchanted.”
The 57-year-old actor claimed to have been “shocked” to learn of the announcement, which debuted on Tuesday night on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”
“I was completely shocked, and then I started laughing, like, this is a joke, right? I’ve always been the bridesmaid!” he said. “I’d completely forgotten about it and never even contemplated being in this position. So my ego is good.”
Demsey has been married to a professional makeup artist and beauty mogul, Jillian Fink for 24 years.
Talula, 21, and the twins Sullivan and Darby, 16, are the couple’s three children.
The philanthropist thanked People for the title in an interview, saying it provides him a platform to have a good impact. In memory of his mother, Dempsey founded the Dempsey Center, a charity that provides support to cancer patients.
“I’m glad it’s happening at this point in my life. It’s nice to have the recognition, and certainly, my ego takes a little bump, but it gives me the platform to use it for something positive,” he said
He was previously named the second Sexist Man Alive both in 2005 and 2006. After finally topping the list this year, Dempsey joins the ranks of other heartthrobs like Marvel star Chris Evans, who was the immediate past holder of the title, Paul Rudd, Michael B. Jordan, and several others.
