Njum Onyemenam, the Abia State Accountant-General, has denied rumors that she was chased out of her office by irate civil servants on Tuesday morning.

Earlier today, social media was awash with news that the state’s comptroller-general of Abia State had been locked out of her office by civil servants in protest of not receiving their salaries.

The report, according to Onyemenam, who was present at the Abia State 32nd Anniversary Celebration lecture held at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia, is untrue and fake news.

The AG claimed in a statement bearing her own signature that she had seen a few people trying to enter the gate but being stopped by security guards on duty as she approached the entrance gate to the Government House annex area, which housed her office and those of some other government functionaries.

She claimed that she used a different route to avoid any obstacles as she made her way to the other side of the compound.

Nothing was as unpleasant as being chased out of my office. I wasn’t even in the office, to be honest. When I tried to drive into the compound, a few people who were waiting at the gate tried to enter the compound as well, but they were met with resistance.

Then, Onyemenam said, “I decided to access my office through an alternate access point rather than be involved in a fracas that I don’t know anything about.
