- Minister of Works David Umahi has rejected Peter Obi’s claim that his life is under threat, saying no one wants to harm the former presidential candidate.
- Umahi insisted that Obi would be safe to contest the 2027 presidential election, expressing confidence that he would lose again while defending the Tinubu administration’s performance in the South-East.

Minister of Works David Umahi has dismissed Peter Obi’s claim that his life is under threat, insisting that no one wants to harm the Labour Party’s 2027 presidential candidate.
Speaking on Friday during an inspection of federal road projects in Ebonyi State, Umahi described Obi’s allegation as unfounded and maintained that he would remain safe to participate in the next general election.
“Nobody wants Obi dead; it’s not just reasonable. We all want him alive to contest this election and watch himself lose again,” Umahi said.
The minister was reacting to Obi’s recent claim that he had received threats over his criticism of the Federal Government. Umahi argued that the former Anambra State governor’s concerns reflected political frustration rather than reality.
According to him, Obi believes the South-East remains his political stronghold after the 2023 election, which Umahi described as an “accident of history.”
He further stated that President Bola Tinubu’s infrastructure projects and appointments in the South-East have reshaped the region’s political landscape, adding that many residents now support the administration’s development efforts instead of what he described as “Artificial Intelligence (AI) kind of politics.”
Umahi also reiterated his readiness to publicly debate Obi on the Tinubu administration’s performance, particularly on infrastructure development and what he described as its inclusive approach to the South-East.
