Man Jailed For Falsely Announcing Death Of Adekunle Gold And Simi’s Daughter

A social media user identified as Swanky_concept has been sentenced to two years imprisonment for falsely claiming that Adekunle Gold and Simi’s daughter was dead.
The court reportedly convicted him after he pleaded guilty to spreading false information online with malicious intent.

A social media user identified as Mr Samuel Adeboye Adeyeye, popularly known on X as Swanky_concept, has been sentenced to two years imprisonment after pleading guilty to spreading false information online about the daughter of Nigerian singers Adekunle Gold and Simi.

Samuel had sparked outrage online after making a misleading post falsely insinuating that the couple’s daughter, Deja, had died.

In the viral post shared on X, he wrote:

“My sincere condolences to the Adekunle family. Rip to Deja.”

The false claim quickly spread across social media platforms, generating panic and reactions from users before authorities reportedly intervened.

Following investigations, Samuel was arraigned in court and later convicted after admitting guilt to charges related to spreading false information with malicious intent.

He was subsequently sentenced on May 15, 2026, to two years imprisonment.

The development has sparked conversations online about the dangers of misinformation and the growing misuse of social media platforms to spread false and harmful claims.

Many Nigerians also reacted to the sentence, with some supporting the court’s decision while others debated whether the punishment was too harsh.
