The reported death of Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo has continued to stir emotions across the entertainment industry, as actor and filmmaker Stanley Ontop disclosed details about the actor’s alleged health battle before his passing.

According to Stanley Ontop, Alex Ekubo had been privately battling stage 4 liver cancer since 2024, a condition many fans and colleagues reportedly knew nothing about.

Sharing details via Instagram on Tuesday evening, Stanley revealed that the late actor underwent extensive medical treatment, including a liver transplant, after he was diagnosed with the terminal illness.

He explained that the actor briefly returned to work after the transplant procedure, raising hopes that his condition had improved.

However, complications later emerged after the transplanted liver allegedly failed again, causing his health to deteriorate before his eventual passing.

In his words:

“Alex was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer in 2024. After undergoing treatment and a liver transplant, he briefly returned to work. Unfortunately, the liver failed again and complications arose, and his condition deteriorated until his passing.”

Stanley, who described himself as a close associate of the late actor, also disclosed that Alex Ekubo’s remains had been deposited in the morgue.

He further appealed to Nigerians and social media users to avoid spreading rumours or unverified claims regarding the actor’s illness and death.

“We kindly ask the public to refrain from spreading unverified claims regarding the cause of his illness. We request that everyone allow Alex to rest in peace and respect the privacy of his family during this difficult time.”

The development has triggered widespread grief online, with fans, colleagues, and public figures continuing to share tributes celebrating the late actor’s talent, charisma, and contribution to Nollywood.
