A self-acclaimed Nigerian youth group has stirred reactions online after publicly rejecting Peter Obi as a preferred presidential candidate for 2027 while urging former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a viral statement circulating online, the group claimed Jonathan remains the best option to challenge Tinubu in the next presidential election because of his previous experience in office.
“We’re not saying Peter Obi is not a good candidate but we don’t want Peter Obi. Jonathan is the only one that can rescue Nigerians from Tinubu d@nger because he’s tested and trusted. He must contest or else…” the group stated.
The comment quickly sparked debates on social media, with Nigerians expressing mixed opinions about the growing political conversations ahead of 2027.
Some users dismissed the group’s claims and questioned its credibility.
@olanrewaju_0008 wrote, “If I pack 8 guys together in my street here too, we are youth group o.”
Another user, @NwankpaFelix, reacted, “Make una go seat down na APC group you too put eye in NDC.”
Others argued that Jonathan’s entry into the race could significantly affect opposition politics.
@OyinloyeGbenga3 commented, “If Jonathan joins the presidential race I doubt Peter Obi will get up to 2 million votes.”
Meanwhile, @roman999rave suggested opposition unity, writing, “They should all join hands and remove Tinubu first before fighting each other.”
The statement comes amid increasing political realignments and speculation surrounding possible candidates for the 2027 presidential election.
Although Jonathan has not officially declared any intention to contest, recent calls from supporters and groups across the country continue to fuel discussions about a potential comeback.
