The founder of Oceangate Engineering Oil & Gas Ltd, Aisha Achimugu, has stated that her wealth is entirely self-made and not connected to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as she addresses ongoing legal matters involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Speaking during an interview with Channels Television on Monday, she explained that she has been actively engaged in business since 2001 and hails from a reputable family, while strongly denying claims that political connections financed her lifestyle.

“In 2001, I launched my company. I come from a respectable household… Not at all. The MD of PPMCC was my late husband. During the work, I got to know him. In fact, I met him while constructing business at NNPC,” she said when asked whether Sanwo-Olu or other influential associates supported her financially.

Achimugu also reacted to the controversy surrounding her 50th birthday celebration in Grenada, which was attended by several prominent Nigerians, including Governor Sanwo-Olu. She maintained that her relationships with high-profile figures developed only after she had already established herself in business.

She further rejected allegations concerning an alleged $13 million linked to her company, insisting that only personal and family funds were discovered during searches of her residence.

The businesswoman, who was arrested in 2025 following an EFCC declaration, is currently facing legal proceedings as her company continues to contest court rulings related to alleged financial offences.

Achimugu reiterated that she is a legitimate entrepreneur focused on expanding her business interests, stressing that her relationships with influential individuals are strictly professional and social.
