Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has publicly endorsed his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, as a preferred successor ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The endorsement reportedly took place during a meeting at Lagos House, Marina, where Governor Sanwo-Olu praised Hamzat’s competence, loyalty, and readiness to lead the state after his tenure ends. Photos and videos from the event have since gone viral online, showing the governor raising Hamzat’s hand before supporters.
Speaking during the meeting, Sanwo-Olu reportedly said Hamzat is fully prepared for the position after years of working closely in government.
“Mr Deputy Governor is a man who is fit and well-prepared for this job. He is a man who knows where all the rooms in the house are.”
He further described Hamzat as a leader who has served with commitment and integrity.
“He is a man who has worked with me at the highest level of integrity, loyalty, commitment, support.”
The endorsement has intensified early political conversations around who will succeed Sanwo-Olu in Lagos, with Hamzat now seen as a major contender within the ruling APC ahead of 2027.
