Tinubu’s Ambassadorial Nominee Fani-Kayode Allegedly Rejected by Germany – Report

  • Germany has reportedly rejected Femi Fani-Kayode’s ambassadorial nomination over concerns about his past statements, though there is no official confirmation yet.

Germany has reportedly rejected the appointment of former aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, as Nigeria’s ambassador, citing concerns over his past statements and conduct.

According to a report by Peoples Gazette, the European country declined to accept the nomination approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu earlier in March.

The report stated that the German government rejected the nomination due to Mr Fani-Kayode’s “erratic behaviour” and what it described as “divisive, ethnocentric and tribalistic comments.”

It was further gathered that the rejection was communicated shortly after his appointment as ambassador-designate to a Central European country.

The development reportedly follows previous controversies surrounding the former minister, including public criticisms of his remarks and conduct in political and media engagements.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation from either the Nigerian government or German authorities regarding the reported rejection.

However, sources cited in the report suggested that the federal government may consider redeploying him to another country.
