A mother has raised serious concerns over possible abuse at a nursery school after alleging that her three-year-old son was hit on the head with a drumstick by a teacher for not completing his classwork.
She shared the incident in a video online, which has since provoked public outrage and reignited debates about the use of corporal punishment in early childhood education.
In the video, the mother explained that she discovered injuries on her toddler’s head after he returned from school, leading her to confront the school authorities. She expressed disbelief that such a young child could be subjected to physical punishment, particularly with an object.
“I am shaking as I record this. Look at my son’s head he’s only three years old. A child who should be learning through play, but instead, he was struck on the head with a drumstick because he didn’t finish his work,” she said.
The woman also revealed that this was not the first time her son had experienced harm at school. She noted that she had previously removed him from another institution following a similar incident.
Although the current school’s headmistress and the teacher involved apologized, the mother emphasized that apologies alone cannot undo the trauma her child endured.
“His previous school left bruises on his head and apologized. I moved him here hoping this school would be safer, yet the same thing happened. Parents need to stop accepting excuses and demand accountability,” she added.
Reports of child abuse in schools continue to spark concern in Nigeria, with advocacy groups urging stronger enforcement of child protection regulations in educational settings.
