Veteran filmmaker Wale Adenuga has shed new light on the controversy surrounding Abiodun Ayoyinka’s departure and eventual return as the lead in the legendary Papa Ajasco series.
This comes shortly after Ayoyinka publicly expressed his financial struggles despite his fame from the show.
In an interview with The PUNCH, Adenuga explained that Ayoyinka’s initial exit was prompted by what he described as serious misconduct, which reportedly threatened the integrity of the Papa Ajasco brand.
The producer revealed that Ayoyinka had organized an unauthorized tour under the Papa Ajasco name without approval from the production team. The situation worsened when the Nigerian Copyright Commission informed the producers that the actor attempted to independently register the brand.
Adenuga described this as a decisive moment, saying, “That level of betrayal led to his dismissal.”
Despite the circumstances, Ayoyinka later returned to the role, with Adenuga emphasizing that the decision was practical rather than sentimental.
“I understand the psychology of actors. Sometimes the most talented can also be the most difficult,” he said, adding that producers often have to make tough choices between managing personalities and maintaining quality.
“As a producer, you sometimes have to choose between talent and temperament,” Adenuga noted. He also admitted that Ayoyinka’s acting skills played a key role in his reinstatement, stating, “Despite everything, I would still work with him because he is a good actor.”
Meanwhile, Ayoyinka has embraced a fresh chapter in his career with a new stage name. In a video shared on Instagram, he introduced himself as Bondu Alaska, thanking fans for their continued support and promising not to disappoint them.
He said, “Ladies and gentlemen, good morning Nigerians. My name is Bondu Alaska, the one and only Bondu Alaska. I want to use this medium to thank all Nigerians for everything they have done. I am a new person now, and I promise I will not let you down. Thank you.”
