In other news… Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has filed a ₦1 billion lawsuit against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Nigeria Police over what he described as an unlawful invasion of his Abuja residence.
The suit, filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, challenges the validity of the search warrant used by officers who reportedly searched his home at No. 12 Mambilla Street, Aso Drive, on February 19 at about 2 p.m.
El-Rufai is asking the court to declare the warrant null and void, arguing that it lacked specific details, contained drafting errors, and did not meet legal requirements. He claimed the operation violated his constitutional rights to dignity, personal liberty, fair hearing, and privacy.
The former governor is also seeking an order to prevent the use of any evidence obtained during the search in any investigation or trial. In addition, he wants the court to compel the ICPC and the Inspector-General of Police to return all items allegedly seized from his residence, along with a detailed inventory.
El-Rufai is demanding ₦1 billion in damages, including ₦300 million for psychological trauma, ₦400 million as exemplary damages, and ₦300 million as aggravated damages. He is also seeking ₦100 million to cover legal costs.
The court has not yet fixed a date for hearing the case.
