Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has claimed that calls for real-time transmission of election results are driven by attempts to compromise the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) server.
In a video circulating online, Omokri alleged that those advocating for electronic transmission of results intend to manipulate the electoral system. According to him, similar attempts were made during the 2023 general elections.
He stated that INEC’s server was targeted “12 million times” during the last election, suggesting that the push for real-time transmission could expose the system to further cyber threats.
Omokri’s comments have sparked mixed reactions, with some supporting his concerns about cybersecurity risks, while others insist that electronic transmission enhances transparency and credibility in elections.
INEC has not issued any fresh statement in response to the claims at the time of this report.
