A Bolt driver has opened up about allegedly suffering domestic violence at the hands of his wife, revealing how fear, financial pressure, and concern for his children have forced him to remain in the marriage.
In an emotional confession shared online, the man disclosed that he often avoids going home early, waiting outside until late at night to ensure his wife is asleep before returning. According to him, this is to avoid violent confrontations whenever he fails to meet her financial expectations.
“Sometimes I close work early. I’m supposed to go home around 7:00 or 7:30, but I’ll wait till 9:00,” he said. “When I go home, I have to make my bed and go to sleep because if I return with less than ₦20,000 or ₦30,000, she will beat me. She even beats me in front of our children.”
The driver further alleged that his wife regularly humiliates him, calling him “stupid” and “useless,” and does not mind abusing him in public view or in front of neighbours.
Despite the abuse, he said he has chosen to remain in the marriage to protect his family and maintain peace in the home. Reflecting on his situation, he added that his quiet nature may have contributed to the abuse. According to him, “Maybe if she had married a non-quiet man, she would love him, but I can’t change who I am.”
