A Nigerian woman has recounted the heartbreaking loss of her uncle, blaming Nigeria’s failing healthcare system and an ongoing strike for his death.

In an emotional post on X, she said her uncle fell ill suddenly and was rushed to a hospital in Makurdi, Benue State, on Friday, January 23, 2026. Despite efforts by doctors and family members, his condition worsened rapidly.

She arrived at the hospital that evening to find her uncle weak and barely responsive. Medical staff later diagnosed him with an acute kidney infection and confirmed he urgently needed dialysis.

However, the family was unable to find any functioning dialysis centre in Makurdi, as facilities were reportedly shut down due to industrial action. Attempts to secure an ambulance to move him to Jos or Abuja also failed.

At exactly 10:10pm, her uncle died in front of his family.

The woman described him as a devoted public servant who had worked for over 20 years, expressing deep pain that he died without access to basic medical care. She ended her post lamenting the reality of living in a country where emergencies often meet broken systems.
