Legendary Afro Juju artist Sir Shina Peters has responded to remarks made by Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo regarding him and Zenith Bank founder Jim Ovia.

In a video that went viral, Ashimolowo addressed his congregation, drawing a comparison between Shina Peters’ financial decisions and Ovia’s. The pastor highlighted the concept of delayed gratification, noting that years ago, Shina Peters had N20 million, which he used to purchase a house, while Ovia invested his N20 million to establish a bank. Ashimolowo pointed out that the bank has since expanded internationally, whereas “one man is now attending to leaking roofs, broken toilets, and doors.”

Another music veteran, Daddy Showkey, who viewed the video, defended Shina Peters and criticized Ashimolowo’s remarks.

In a statement shared on his Instagram Stories on Wednesday, January 21, Shina Peters said he would not engage in a dispute over the comments, nor would he speak negatively or pursue legal action against the pastor. Peters explained that, as a fellow clergyman, he chooses to rise above such comparisons.

He also assured fans that he has achieved personal success and remains well-established in his career.

“The way I see it God has really blessed me beyond words, you can’t even begin to imagine the blessings of God upon my life all these decades. People close to me know what I am talking about,” he said.
