Veteran Nigerian singer Baba Fryo has reacted strongly to Wizkid’s controversial comments amid the ongoing dispute involving the Afrobeat star, Seun Kuti, and the legacy of the late Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
The drama began after Seun Kuti called out Wizkid’s fans for drawing comparisons between the modern-day superstar and his late father. Seun described the comparisons as disrespectful and warned fans against dragging Fela’s name into online fan arguments.
Wizkid later responded through his Instagram story, where he claimed he was bigger than Fela and hurled insults at Seun Kuti, further escalating the tension.
Reacting to the situation, Baba Fryo took to social media to voice his disappointment, writing: “I just dey shame for this Gen Z. How can these kids compare a kid to an elder? Fela was a great musician, a multi-instrumentalist, a revolutionist.
“He wasn’t just an artiste but a full-time musician, and he remained relevant for over 30 years until the day he died.”
He went on to make a cultural comparison, adding: “A Jamaican artiste would never do such to Bob Marley. I dey shame for this youth. Call Gen Zero sense. Mtcheew.”
The clash has reignited conversations around respect for music legends, generational differences in understanding cultural impact, and how today’s artists address the pioneers who laid the foundation of the industry.
Many fans and commentators online have since supported Baba Fryo’s stance, insisting that Fela Kuti’s legacy deserves honour and respect.
