Afrobeats singer Seun Kuti has reacted strongly to what he sees as continued disrespect toward his late father, Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
In a five-minute video, Seun accused fans of Grammy-winning artiste Wizkid, popularly known as Wizkid FC, of repeatedly drawing comparisons between Wizkid and Fela.
According to Seun, describing Wizkid as “the new Fela” is wrong and disrespectful, as it downplays the unique legacy, ideology, and cultural influence of the Afrobeat pioneer. He stressed that Fela’s impact cannot be copied or transferred to any modern-day artist.
During the emotional video, Seun expressed anger over what he believes is a deliberate attempt by some fans to rewrite history by elevating Wizkid to the same level as his father. He accused them of trying to take over Fela’s image and significance.
In his words:
“Wizkid fc needs to keep Fela’s name out of their mouth. You people try to steal the man image. You try to claim your fake artist is the new Fela. It’s an insult to Fela to call Wizkid the new Fela. Wizkid fc are the most !gn0 rãnt fanbase in the world.”
Meanwhile, Wizkid’s fans responded to Seun’s claims, insisting that no one is actively pushing the narrative that Wizkid is Fela’s replacement. They argued that such comparisons are no longer common and that the conversation ended long ago.

@hintrovertt:”Most of these Wizkid fans are just kids who don’t know who Fela is, and I blame social media for all this disrespect. Wizkid has never used his influence to speak against bad governance even once. So where is the comparison coming from? Y’all think Fela was just a musician. Even Wizkid himself will look at you like fools because he wouldn’t dare disrespect Fela’s legacy.”
@001Xtasy:”This isn’t hate, it’s history speaking. Fela wasn’t just music he was movement, resistance, sacrifice. You don’t ‘inherit’ that legacy with charts and fashion. Wizkid is a global star in his own lane, but Fela is a revolutionary era that can’t be replicated. Respect both, stop the forced comparisons.”
@ugosimbaaputago:”I have never ever heard a fela song anywhere so them feeling everyone should be bowing to him is what I don’t understand”
