Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, has lodged a petition with the Department of State Services (DSS), accusing Primate Elijah Ayodele of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church of attempting to extort ₦150 million from him.
Adelabu, a former Oyo State governorship candidate, alleged the cleric demanded huge sums and expensive ritual items under the guise of providing “spiritual support” for his 2027 governorship ambition.
The petition, dated October 13, 2025, and signed by Adelabu’s aide, Bolaji Tunji, claimed the cleric turned against him after the requests were refused.
Costly Spiritual Demands
According to the petition and text messages seen by TheCable, Primate Ayodele reportedly instructed Adelabu to provide specific items: 24 APC flags, 1,000 saxophones or trumpets
The items were reportedly valued between ₦50 million for the cheapest grade and ₦130 million for imported instruments. Ayodele allegedly claimed these were “instructions from God” to guarantee victory at the polls. Adelabu reportedly told the cleric he could not afford the items.
Following the refusal, the cleric reportedly declared during a church service that Adelabu would not become the Oyo governor, describing the pronouncements as divine warnings. The Minister’s petition frames the entire encounter as spiritual blackmail and an attempt to influence a political process through financial and ritual pressure.
